Mirrors, Windows and Lenses: The Impact of Early Messages

ACT and University of Phoenix

ACT Consulting partnered with University of Phoenix's Office of Educational Equity to present a two part series Mirrors, Windows and Lenses: The Impact of Early Messages. These two sessions focused on early messages of bias and assumptions we receive at an early age. Participants had an opportunity to identify experiences that have consciously and unconsciously shaped their identities, assumptions about other people and their world view, using the Cycle of Socialization as a guiding tool. Participants also reflected on how we can unlearn those messages in order to reduce the impact of bias on our communities, as well as brainstormed ACTion steps to break the cycle of socialization.
